In Hulu’s upcoming limited seriesUnder the Bridge— based on Rebecca Godfrey’s book of the same name — the 37-year-oldOscar nomineestars as Cam Bentland, a police officer investigating the murder of a young girl in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, while Keough, who plays the acclaimed authorwho died in 2022, also attempts to get answers in the case.
According to an official synopsis from the streamer, Under the Bridgechronicles “the 1997 true story of fourteen-year-old Reena Virk (Vritika Gupta) who went to join friends at a party and never returned home. Through the eyes of Godfrey (Riley Keough) and a local police officer (Lily Gladstone), the series takes us into the hidden world of the young girls accused of the murder — revealing startling truths about the unlikely killer."

The trailer for the crime series begins with a voiceover saying, “There’s danger everywhere but danger had never looked quite like this before.”
“This girl Reena Virk, she’s been missing for three days,” Cam says.
When she learns that another teen “saw something” related to Virk’s death, she questions, “What happened under the bridge?”
“I’m writing a book,” she responds. “People will tell me things they’re not going to tell you.”

A teen then explains, “Girls are always missing. Bic girls is what the cops call us, like the lighters.”
“Why do they call you that?” asks Rebecca and another teen responds, “Because we’re disposable.”
One concerned citizen claims “there’s a darkness in those girls” while another adds, “I think the devil is working inside them.”
“This is a tale of horror and wonder, of innocence and beauty, violence and sin,” Rebecca says in a voiceover. “This story would haunt the island for years to come. It forever changed a fact that young girls were the ones we were supposed to protect, not be protected from.”
The trailer concludes with Rebecca pushing for answers, saying, “I want you to take me under the bridge.”

The series’ writer/creator Quinn Shephard and showrunner Samir Mehta recently opened up about the serendipitous casting of the series in an interview withEntertainment Weekly.
“I moved into a house January 2022,” Mehta toldEW. “One day, I’m taking out the trash, met my new neighbor, became very close friends right away. I was telling him I just got this show and he is like, ‘I’m really good friends with Riley Keough. I think she’d be great for it.'”
“And then Lily and Riley had been Instagram friends,” Shephard adds. “They never met in real life. They’d been DMing each other a lot. So we were like, ‘It obviously should be Lily Gladstone in this role.'”
In addition to Gladstone, Keough, and Gupta, the series also stars Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, Izzy G., Aiyana Goodfellow, Ezra Faroque Khan and Archie Panjabi.
Keough, who is the granddaughter ofElvis Presleyand daughter ofLisa Marie Presley, recently starred inDaisy Jones & the Six, which earned her nominations in the best actress in a limited series category at the Golden Globe Awards and the Emmys.
