Avatar: The Way of Waterwill be available to stream on two streaming platforms very soon.

Making its way from the big screen to the online stream, theAvatarsequel is about to hit two streamers this summer: Disney+ andMax. News of its streaming release was announced on May 15, five months after the film hit theaters in December.

Avatar: The Way of Water— starringSigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington andZoe Saldaña— marks the long-awaited sequel toAvatar, which made its theatrical debut in December 2009. Thefilm has been in the worksfor quite some time following the success of its predecessor, though production delays kept pushing back the actual release.

Fast forward nearly 13 years, fans can now return to the planet Pandora to follow Jake and Neytiri’s family and “the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure,” per an official logline for the movie.

Earlybox office numberspulled a global total of $435 million over the opening weekend, making it the fourth-biggest opening weekend of 2022. But James Cameron’s 3-D CGI sequel doesn’t stop withAvatar 2as more films are already in the works! In fact,Avatar 3was shot back-to-back with the second film and isexpected to debut on Dec. 20, 2024.

Performance capture is among the topics included, showcasing how the undersea world of Pandora was created, in addition to the casting process. Postproduction and the stunts enacted in the film are also explored.

Avatar: The Way of Waterwill become available on4K UHD, Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVDon June 20. The same day, the 2009 originalAvatarwill also be offered in 4K UHD for the first time.
