Earlier this week , an unusually gravid junk storm blew its way across parting of Utah , Nevada , and California . Satellite double now show the extent of the tempest as seen from high above .
The dust tempest , which struck the southwestern U.S. this past Tuesday , was due to a cold-blooded front that moved across the region . In some areas , the lead 70 miles per hour ( 112 km ) gusts stirred up considerable dust , reducing visibility to a quarter Admiralty mile in some sphere . A17 - fomite pileup on the I-80 result in one death and over 25 injury .

The University of Wisconsin - Madison ’s DIMSS Satellite Bloghas post some image and animationsshowing how the debris tempest appeared from space . The gif above shows the hazy outline of a thick swarm of detritus as it go southwest across southerly Nevada and parts of Southern California . The images were captured by the GOES-13 satellite .
