The most intriguing novel guest headliner in the new Star Trek movie is n’t a person at all , but the U.S.S. Kelvin , the condemn ship that ’s showcased in the trailer . It ’s the first new bit of Starfleet ship design we ’ve picture in ages — and it takes some getting used to . fortunately , Intel ’s newfangled Trek tie - in site admit a handy feature that let you expect at the Kelvin from all angle , and even prod it a chip . Screenshots below .
Basically , you could rotate the Kelvin 360 degrees on two axis , although you ca n’t quite manage both axes at once . It gives a you a respectable sense of exactly how this ship work , with the modest nacelle ( complete with navigational deflector ) on top , and the swelled nacelle on bottom . It ’s definitely growing on me , just in time to get blown up by the Romulans . A few features , like the Bridge , phaser turrets and navigational deflector , pop up with bits of info and faint technical specs . I hope they add more of that stuff shortly — I want to know where the locomotive engine room is , and the shuttlecraft bay . [ Boldly Go at Intel ]
