After leaving usdangling off a White House cliffjust before Halloween , Chucky turn back tomorrow to finish outits third time of year . More mayhem awaits in Washington , D.C. for Chucky and the teens who ’re desperate to take him down , not to mention Tiffany , nonplus on Texas ’ Death Row . Plus , Chucky’sstill confront a new kind of revulsion : ageing ! apace !
io9 got a chance to lecture toChucky creator Don Mancinito pick up more about what ’s to come for the orca wench and his crew of foes , friends , frenemies , and ( of course of study ) gruesomely mutilated victim .
Cheryl Eddy , io9 : We ’ve drop three seasons with Jake , Devon , and Lexy and we ca n’t help but root for them . But Chucky is the “ fighter ” of the enfranchisement and we ’ll always need him to succeed . How do you approach writing those lineament so that there ’s appeal on both sides ?

Don Mancini : Chucky is the villain . Or perchance the anti - wedge . But I sleep with the way you utter that because that ’s kind of the way I feel about it — I want them all to be felicitous somehow . But , I signify , I do like invest new obstacles in the course of those nipper . [ The other Chucky writers and I ] do enjoy identifying with Chucky in [ coming up with ways to ] interrupt their route to happiness . I think that ’s part of the appeal of the show , and why YA as a genre — which is something that we ’ve done for the first time , really , with the video show — is a honest fit for Chucky .
With Chucky , going all the way back to the movies , we discover that the style was always more or less heighten — Chucky himself seems to operate good in a slightly heightened reality , I think because he himself as a tool is stylise . He ’s like a stylize representation of a human being . But there ’s that preternatural vale that make it find uncanny . So that slight bit of stylisation , we seek to interpenetrate that in his whole human beings without going full Tim Burton , is what I always say . I mean , I love Tim Burton , but we always want to bide a little more naturalistic than a Tim Burton movie . And I call back that ’s the kids . The teenage characters do that so well because teenage emotion of course are heightened and stylise . That ’s why YA is a near fit for Chucky . But yes , I attempt to service all the fictional character .
io9 : There ’s a bit in the Modern sequence where Chucky meth - talks other “ grampus doll ” characters in pop culture , kind of an extension of his social media persona . Did you always have a vista like that in mind ?

Mancini : Yes — peculiarly because we ’re at the same studio , Universal . In time of year three [ the story is about ] Chucky skin with his own waning superpower , his own waning strength as a cause of death . And in pop culture , I just retrieve that that ’s an divertingly identifiable kind of existential dilemma to give a slasher icon . I ’ve been doing this for decades now , so when the Child ’s child’s play remake came out a few years ago , that was threatening to me , especially because I was developing the video show at that time . You never know what could have bechance if that movie had been some huge achiever . It could have resulted in our telecasting show not happening . It was just this big query mark . So that so that was existentially frightening for me — I think that ’s a fairly universal thing to find when you get when you ’ve been doing something for a certain issue of years . I just thought it would be fun to show Chucky dealing with a similar emotion . And what dear way of life to do that [ than seeing ] him clicking through epithelial duct and seeing M3GAN and the Boy and Annabelle — all the different ones , and sort of feeling threatened by them ? I just thought that was funny and relatable .
io9 : You mentioned the 2019 tiddler ’s act reboot movie — which is well pass on in the past times — but there have been rumour of late that you might have a newfangled Chucky moving picture in the workplace . What can you tell us about that ?
Mancini : Very little . Really , I ca n’t really say anything more . It ’s like very early day of of talks , but it ’s an exciting , exciting go-ahead . I desire we ’re go to get another season of the show as well . I mean , I think both can occur and they can both coexist in there . My program is to have it all make sense in footing of the persistence and the overall mythology of the reality we ’re construct ; we wo n’t contradict anything .

io9 : So if you had your druthers , would it be a theatrical acquittance that picks up the story of the boob tube show ?
Mancini : Or it could be , if we get a time of year four , we break up up those taradiddle threads . And wherever we cease up leave off season four , that the movie could take over . I ca n’t say too much because there ’s in reality an even cunning way that it act upon that makes it kind of cool . I know you have to take that with a Brobdingnagian food grain of salt coming from me . It ’s like I ca n’t say anything , but it ’s really amazing .
io9 : I will say the destruction of time of year three , without pamper anything , really open up the possibility for a time of year four . Hopefully we ’ll get that proclamation sooner than subsequently .

Mancini : I go for so . I ’m glad it worked . It seemed to figure out for people . They really liked that twist .
io9 : It was very cool to see the legendary John Waters return to the dealership in a raw function . What ’s it like work with John Waters as an role player and how much input did he have into his Chucky character ?
Mancini : Having process with him on Seed of Chucky and just have it off him and being a fan of his oeuvre , not just the movies , but also his work as a writer , as an author , and as a performer , he ’s really impressive . But I know him , so I think , I and my fellow author were capable to cut that character specifically for him . We wrote it with him in mind because — who better is sort of spiritually to have do all of the topsy-turvyness that erupted from the adorable Good Guy bird ?

io9 : In this season we finally see Brad Dourif beyond just being Chucky ’s voice . Was that a cool thing for everyone to experience ?
Mancini : It was antic . He was on arrange just for a couplet of days on Curse of Chucky , which we shoot in 2012 or 2013 . So it ’s been 10 years . Every year , whether it ’s a new movie or a new time of year of the telly show , I always want to give Brad new stuff to do to keep him challenge and concerned . He ’s one of the greatest actors of his contemporaries , and we have him at our electric pig . I ’d be delinquent if I were not employ that to the good . So after stimulate giving him all these playfulness variations on the Chucky character last twelvemonth , where he did Good Chucky and Colonel Chucky and whatnot , I just think , like , “ allow ’s have you in the flesh . ” I knew I need him to have scenes with the bird because I knew — even before I figured out how to do it — I just knew that that would be a coolheaded thing to see . And scenes with Fiona [ Dourif , Brad Dourif ’s girl and Chucky cobalt - star ] as young Charles Lee Ray . Because that I just think Fiona is so heavy as unseasoned Charles Lee Ray . It was fun to put them together and give them stuff to do , and I call up it was kind of a merriment syndicate issue in their lives — something that they ’ll always care for . It was heavy having him around , because everyone ’s on their toe : “ Chucky ’s in the house ! ” Everyone want to make a sound impression , but he ’s not intimidating at all . He ’s just so much fun . And it was gravid having him around for a month . He hang out a raft with the puppeteer , which was really interesting .
Chucky season three , part two premieres tomorrow , April 10 , at 10 p.m. on USA and Syfy , with new episodes hebdomadally until May 1 . you could also pelt episodes the next Clarence Day on Peacock .
