Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell’s husbandEldridge Toneyis sharing how his late wife’s strength never wavered as she approached herfinal days.
Despite experiencing “lots” of “lower back pain” and taking “lots of medications,” Toney exclusively tells PEOPLE that the reality star “didn’t show a lot of emotion” and was “super strong for the family.”
Cardwell may have put on a brave face for her loved ones, “but when it was just the two of us, it was hard not to break down,” he recalls.

On Dec. 9, theHere Comes Honey Boo Booalumdied at age 29, less than a year after astage 4 adrenal carcinoma diagnosislast January. While announcing the death onInstagram, her motherMama June Shannonshared a family photograph and wrote, “With the breaking heart, we are announcing that @annamarie35 is no longer with us. She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM.”
“She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months she passed away with her family around her like she won’t and we will will be updating y’all with more information as we get it today,” continued Shannon, 44.

Cardwell and Roney marriedin Wilkinson County, Georgia, on March 4, shortly after her diagnosis because they knew they “knew time was limited.”
The couple began dating in 2017 following Cardwell’s divorce from ex-husband Michael Cardwell, with whom she welcomed daughter Kylee Madison in 2015. Cardwell was also mom to daughter Kaitlyn Elizabeth, born in 2012.

Though the couple always envisioned having a lot of time, upon learning of her cancer diagnosis, Toney and Cardwell made a pact to “never go to bed angry or in a fight because you never know what tomorrow will bring.”
“She was the one I was supposed to grow old with,” he adds. “She was my one true love, she was that for me. I will never stop loving her. There will never be another Anna.”
