One of the mysteries of the Nazca civilization , which be from 500 to 200 B.C.E. ,   has finally been solved , thanks to planet reflexion . The Nazca are famous for their impressive bloodline carve into the Peruvian desert , but they also built an incredible scheme of aqueduct , some of which still function today . The   organization is covered in spiral openings , call puquios , but their social function remained indecipherable   – until now .

Rosa Lasaponara and a team from the Institute of Methodologies for Environmental Analysis in Italy have notice that the puquios ’ bottle screw - shaped burrow funnel   wind into a system of underground duct that bear on   the piss where it needs to go .

The squad used artificial satellite image to pinpoint the position of all the puquios across the Nazca region   and then compare them to how urine reference and settlements were distribute .   Their research will be publish in the journal Ancient Nasca World : raw Insights from Science and Archaeology later this year .

“ The puquios were the most ambitious hydraulic project in the Nazca field and made water usable for the whole year , not only for agriculture and irrigation but also for domestic motive , ” Lasaponara told theBBC .

The scale and sophistication of the puquios aqueducts indicate that their grammatical construction and upkeep must have required a collaborative and socially organized organisation . The builders must have had a mysterious noesis of the geology of the area as well as an understanding of how to make the most of the annual fluctuation in water system availableness .

It is not surprising that a civilization that was able-bodied to build such a effort of applied science was then able to design the complexNazca line , which let in figures of animals , plants , humans , and many geometric blood . They are believe to have a religious connotation , concern to the worship of mountains and water sources .

Whatever their implication and function , the builders knew what they were doing . Understanding the use of puquios might even get us nearer to savvy for sure what the lines were really for .
