We just recently moved to AZ , and holy moly the bugs . So many microbe , everyfreakinwhere . It ’s like Armageddon around my porch lights every night . But by nature , when I initiate looking for them , they did n’t need to cooperate . Except this patient niggling katydid . see him about to be throw aside in some structure materials and set him on my adorable headroom patio chairperson , the coral color in a nice way to cancel his green . He flow out for a couple of 60 minutes , until he got trite of me stuff cameras in his expression . bulge with the big DSLR but could n’t find my adapter to get the pictures off say big DSLR . I hate move . Final shot is from my iPhone 6 with an Easy Macro lens system and a touch of tweaking .

Cool Girl

This nerveless girl has been hanging out on my front porch for the past few calendar week prevent the dirt ball under control . She hides during the daylight and only comes out to hunt during the Nox . She ’s only just over an inch long let in leg .

I do n’t have a macro lens , so I used my 300 millimetre rapid climb lens from about 5 understructure aside so I could focus in good order . I also tried various options , but found that the lower ISO allowed the details of the whisker on her back to really digest out . This mean I had an absurdly long exposure time ( the only Light Within was the dim porch light ) so it took a few jibe to get one without motility blur . Sony A77 , 300 mm , f/5.6 , 1/3 sec . , ISO 500 Edited for white counterbalance and acuteness via PhotoScape .

I had an off camera flash on the board to get the luminousness I need . I was so happy how well it came out ! ! ! 🙂

This prototype was taken on a indolent saturday dawn , having breakfast and coffee on the balcony in Holland . We were join by a little greenish jimmeny cricket who had no problem sit around on my paw . I took the picture with my Samsung Galaxy S2 in macro and edited ( crop & enhanced ) it on my phone . Changing the declaration for the competition on my phone was gainsay . Also i have seem to trim back out a declamatory piece during redaction , my original is only 600kb … .I will have to recover out what happened

Life Aquatic

I love bugs and wanted to essay something different , unfortunately there seemed to be a want of bugs to bourgeon in the short time I had on saturday morning but I saw a bucket of water with some mosquito larvae and had a bit of a drama to see if I could take some “ underwater ” shots . I had an off camera New York minute which I wrap in a few bags and submerged under the water to attempt and bounce off the leaves in the bottom of the bucket , and used a 100 mm Canon macro lens with a Canon 600D which I had on a tripod over the water . I was reasonably proud of with the solution , ( I still have very little Idea of what I ’m doing ) and was impressed by the amount of contingent I could see . Mosquitoes seem to get a hard time but I always find it fascinating to observe the larvae wriggling around and both the larvae and adults are an significant source of food for those higher up the solid food chain .

Illustrated Dragonfly

I was sit on my terrace Saturday with a admirer and saw this red dragonfly ( or whatever it is in reality forebode ) demesne on a pile of firewood that came package in an orange nett bag , which was sitting next to the firepit . I grabbed my iPhone 6 , zoomed in , and snapped this flying pic before it flew aside . Not the skillful quality , but I like the way the colors and grain made a kinda cool composition .

During a break I went down the stairs and grabbed my photographic camera , I have a standard 18 - 55 lense and a 55 - 300 mm lens . I played with both , but went with the telephoto electron lens because I could be further back and still tighten up the angle . I prevent zooming in and out to find the hemipterous insect because they would n’t stay still ; my small gray cat was chasing my subjects . I pick up my orange cat Luna fall back over the fencing , so I resolve to make certain she jump down safe . Warriors of the Wind

We were having a pace sales agreement and during a quiet , I was wandering around the house shoot shots of random creepy crawlies . But it was my wife exclaiming , “ Oh my god , what ’s THAT ? ! ” which directed me to take this slam . Her attention was chiefly direct at the webbing around the tree trunk of Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . gratefully , it was n’t wanderer webbing as we ’d most likely be have our last thousand sales event before the fire sales agreement . There was a cat at piece of work and further up the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree I discover the lone carcass of a cicada ’s ecdysis . As I draw up the shot , I could n’t help but to think it from a scene in warrior of the Wind ( bka Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind ) , one of my favorite gum anime growing up , where magnanimous cicada - like insects were used as weapons of mass destruction . And here was one , its corpse left run aground in an almost smoky , ravage landscape painting . Camera : Nikon D7100 , F - barricade : f/5 , Exposure meter : 1/1250 , ISO : 1250 , 35 mm Focal duration : 52

Shot at 1/640 sec ; f/5.6 ; ISO 100 .
